An active member who becomes disabled may be eligible to receive a disability retirement from the Employees’ Retirement System of Rhode Island (ERSRI). Learn more about the two types of disability pensions benefit options below.
Accidental Disability
An accidental disability pension is a benefit available to members who are physically or mentally unable to perform their job as a result of an accident that happened at work.
An ordinary disability pension is a benefit available to active members who are physically or mentally unable to perform their job due to illness or injury that did not occur at work.

Ongoing Compliance Requirements for Disability Pensions
